Three of our J4 pupils, Sam, Alexandros and Oliver have won the Film Trailer Competition in the Shrewsbury Bookfest Big Book Award 2020. All of us at St. Winefride’s send them our very heartiest congratulations: extremely well done, boys!

According to the organisers, there were many outstanding entries in the film trailer category, so we have good reason to be extremely proud of this trio. The boys met over weekends to do the filming, selecting the location and the costumes for the characters with great care. Their attention to detail, including filming part of it in black and white as though it were a war documentary, gave their trailer for Armistice Runner, one of the shortlisted books, its authentic World War 1 look. The trailer is still available on the Shrewsbury Bookfest website at:

Two of our other J4 pupils won ‘Best in School’ categories in the Art and Letter Writing Competitions respectively. Our warmest congratulations go to Alexander and Eoghan for the time and effort which they put into their entries, and thank you to Mr. Keeling. The prizes will be arriving as soon as the schools re-open and will be presented to the winners at a special school assembly.

As a class, this J4 group have really done themselves proud: many of them read all six shortlisted books and entered all the competitions. Well done to all of you – you have shown real determination and commitment!

Keep well and stay safe.
